- Japan was struck by the The Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011. The Media Center suffered the largest damage with books falling off their shelves. Approximately 200,000 library books were shaken off their shelves, and more than half of the books of the library of the Faculty of Nursing and Medical Care also fell off.
